hen looking for more leads, a great way to leverage your digital marketing strategy is to focus on ways to drive traffic to your website. Why? Someone who is visiting your website is likely researching a problem they have - and your company may be just the solution.

How do you do drive traffic? There is a lot of variety to this answer, but one way we’re going to explore today is blogs - and specifically, how to choose the topics and words you use in order to attract ideal traffic.

Google keyword planner is a great research tool that can help you discover keywords your audience is looking for in search engines, which means when they are on your website you will pop up in search results and … you guessed it - drive website traffic.

One thing that is great about using this tool is that it helps you to diversify. Of course you have an idea of the general pain points your customers are researching, but without a crystal ball you can’t really predict all the ways someone will search for that phrase or topic. While keyword planner is not a crystal ball, it is a great tool for brainstorming new words and understanding the popularity of certain phrases in order to make educated decisions on your content plan.

The Keyword Planner tool is connected with your Google Ads account, and you can access from the tools drop down menu. You can then either “Discover new keywords” or “Get search volume and forecasts.”

When we’re in idea generation phase to discover more ways to drive traffic and plan our content, we use the discover new keywords option to uncover those terms and phrases that will resonate with your audience. Within this section, you can either search off a phrase you are considering using, or search a website. Use the website search option to review competitor websites and find out what keywords are ranking high on their websites.

This is a foundational overview of using the Google Keywords planner for generating new ideas. This is a robust tool with lots of potential, which we will dive into in future posts. Stay tuned!
